An 84-year-old man named Arthur married a 29-year-old woman.
The next morning, Arthur walked into the hotel breakfast room looking surprisingly energetic.
His 81-year-old best friend, George, was already sitting at a table drinking coffee.
The moment George saw him, he nearly dropped his newspaper.
“Arthur!”
Arthur smiled.
“Good morning.”
George stared at him in disbelief.
“You’re 84!”
Arthur nodded.
“I know.”
George leaned closer and whispered:
“How did you survive your wedding night?”
Arthur calmly stirred his coffee.
George continued:
“Weren’t you worried about your heart?”
Arthur took a slow sip.
Then smiled and said:
“My doctor told me I should avoid anything too strenuous, so I slept in the guest room.”
George nearly spit out his coffee.
Arthur calmly picked up his toast.
“At our age, George, romance is important…”
He paused.
“…but so is getting eight hours of sleep.”
George shook his head and started laughing.
“I thought you were going to be the death of yourself!”
Arthur smiled.
“No, my friend.”
He took another sip of coffee.
“My wife is 29. I’m 84. She’s the one who needs to worry about keeping up with me at breakfast.”
